TL;DR:
- There are a lot of radical changes occurring in education these days.
- Remember your “why” for going into teaching.
- Connect with a network of teachers to find support and grow.
Globally, many teachers face radical changes to education laws and rules in their state. Educators can feel like chess pieces with salary schedule changes, book bans, and bathroom bills. The LEARNS Act enacted substantial salary changes in my home state and removed Fair Dismissal. Not many legislators are reaching out to teachers to gain clarity. Breathe. Learn to thrive despite the radical change. You are not alone! Now is the time to remember your why, find a supportive community of educators, and continue to teach better.

Regarding radical changes in education, first, remember your why. Why did you become a teacher? What drives you to continue doing what you do? Simon Sinek, author of Find Your Why: A Practical Guide to Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team, wrote, “If we want to feel an undying passion for our work, if we want to feel we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves, we all need to know our WHY.”
You can stay motivated and thrive despite radical changes by focusing on your why.
Thrive Through Connection and Resources
Next, connect to a supportive community for educators. Teach Better provides connections and resources critical to helping you thrive despite radical changes. Teachers need support from other teachers. An educator support community not connected with your district may provide a different, more supportive perspective. Get excited about both the possibilities and the opportunities that come with change. Embrace new technologies, for example, OpenAI. Consider alternative teaching methods like the Grid Method or restorative practices. Be open to trying new things. By focusing on your students, push yourself out of your comfort zone to thrive despite radical change.
Thrive By Learning
Meanwhile, continue to thrive despite radical change by learning to teach better. Our education systems are evolving; nevertheless, your students still need you. They need someone who cares about their education and is committed to helping them succeed. Keep pushing them to be their best selves through restorative practices. Never forget your impact on their lives, which is the power of a teacher!
